HIS Evaluation Framework Project

Getting Better Evidence about What Works in HIS: Introducing an HIS Evaluation Framework Toolkit

An interactive workshop to orient and train attendees on applying the Health Information System (HIS) Evaluation Framework and Toolkit through real-world case scenarios. The session will allow attendees to understand the importance of evaluation in the context of scaling-up of digital health innovations, developing priority evaluation questions that can inform improvements and future investments in HIS, identifying appropriate evaluation methods by HIS type and level of system maturity, and communicating evaluation findings to stakeholders. The session will address the practical needs of designing and conducting evaluations to answer questions about HIS interventions as well as to build the broader global evidence base on “what works” in HIS strengthening.  Workshop participants will gain skills in planning for HIS evaluations, as well as familiarity with practical resources which can reduce the “barrier to entry” for conducting useful HIS evaluation. The session will include an orientation to the HIS Evaluation Toolkit, followed by a review of a case scenario in small groups where attendees will apply lessons from the Toolkit to design an HIS evaluation using templates.  The workshop will conclude with a review and discussion of appropriate evaluation strategies.
